Friction Welding’s Application in Damon Industry Belt Conveyor Rollers

With the rapid development of Internet, logistics and warehouse market are increasingly prosperous. Conveying equipments have been major equipments in logistics and warehouse enterprises.  The structure and quality of conveyor rollers, the major component of conveying equipment, affect directly equipments’ operation. Damon Industry, the largest domestic conveyor roller manufacturer, designed and manufactured belt conveyor roller series to meet the needs of all conveying equipments with its particular manufacture process and high quality.

Traditional roller production adopts ordinary welding process mainly using hand welding or gas protection welding. During welding process, welding material has been added and melted with complex processing technology, low efficiency and instable welding quality. False welding, porosity and cracks often appear at welding joint.

To solve this problem, we adopted new welding technology—friction welding which has obtained state patent.

Thanks to new welding technology, it is easier, faster and more convenient than before to weld and manufacture cylinder, which can be realized by extrusion and plasticizing after high temperature produced by friction between head and cylinder. The large welding area ensures 100% of the end surface fusion. Welding joints is forging structure with high strength exceeding base metal. No welding material need to be added during the process of welding, which avoids the risk of mixing impurities into welding seam with the third welding material added. Productivity has risen greatly with stable welding quality and quick processing time from 3 to 5 seconds. Through cutting welding joint and analyzing tension tests, we found that the welding joint penetration is better without gas holes and welding strength is higher, which can satisfy the operation mode of high speed and heavy load of conveying industry.

  We adjusted processing technology of the spindle nose through friction welding technology. These techniques include quenching and tempering before welding, welding preheating and post-weld heat preservation before the head manufacturing. It can prevent the disadvantages that microstructure brittleness occurs with the temperature dropping so rapidly after workpiece produces high temperature locally and the hardness of Q-T workpiece reduces after high temperature annealing. Test results show that the hardness of workpiece is identical before and after welding to satisfy different requirements of hardness of the spindle nose.

Thanks to the application of welding friction, manufacturing technology becomes simpler, quality more stable, period of manufacture shorter and delivery cycle faster, which can meet customers’ requirements to raise their satisfaction. It is believed that Damon Industry new-type friction welding conveyor roller will be star product for customers.
